In the official Iranian account, "Operation Martyr Soleimani" was the IRGC Aerospace Force's missile strike on 8 January 2020 against the U.S. Ain al-Asad base in Iraq's Anbar Province, in retaliation for the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani. Per this account, dozens of ballistic missiles (including Fateh-313 and Qiam) were fired, and IRGC officials stated the targets were hit precisely and that the aim was the U.S. military machine rather than killing personnel. It is described as Iran's first direct missile strike on a major U.S. base.
